Today is Mike's birthday. Here's how the day went:
I woke up not feeling well at all - upset stomach and just generally grumpy. I decided to hit the ground running (literally) when I got out of bed at 10am and finished up week one of the couch to 5k program. I made it through the entire run again - this time I felt like I had to really push myself but I did it!
After a half hour of trying to get Ray to take a nap with no luck I gave up and Mike and I went to lunch at Georgette's cafe in downtown Maumee. It was really good. We split a BLT panini and both had a cup of chicken noodle soup. I also had a chai tea latte that was amazing. It was a little spicier than the usual chai at Starbucks or wherever and it had a solid 1/2 inch of foam on top - yum! After lunch we window shopped at the 10,000 villages store (fair trade) that is connected to the cafe. It was really nice to have a relaxing lunch - quiet too. And I love downtown Maumee; If I could pick anywhere to live it would certainly be in that area.
On our way back we stopped at the Goodwill in BG (I had a dream we found a crazy lamp there for our living room - no luck though) and Kroger for some dinner ingredients.
For dinner I planned to make homemade pizza for everyone (M/K/Z, M/W, M/M, E/F/O/O, and us). I decided to get the pizza crust mix that you just add water to rather than making it from complete scratch since I had to make several pizzas. I even got foil pizza pans for quick clean up (we have been cleaning the kitchen several times a day). Well, the crust wasn't working out well - it was all sticky and not spreading across the pan at all even when I added extra flour. My hands were covered in the gooey mess, I was growing frustrated and then Will calmly said, "I think the oven is on fire!" And oh yes, it was. (Yesterday, I had made quiche for breakfast for everyone and the eggs overflowed a bit and we forgot to set the oven to self clean.) I think this was the straw that broke the camels back for me. I was obviously frustrated and did not find this funny at all. Michael dumped some baking soda on the fire to get it to go out. (Now, hours later we are sitting here and the oven is running it's "self clean" mode.) So, we ordered pizza, Mike opened presents, started another fire with the 27 birthday candles, ate fudge marble cake with chocolate buttercream icing (which miraculously did not create a fire earlier in the day), watched Sam and Omri run around like crazy, played DVD scene it, and called it a night.
Situations like this keep showing me that I am not one to go with the flow. I like my organized life (and cupboards ;) ) I have an excel spreadsheet with all the groceries that I buy on it and simply check them off as I need them, go to the store and tackle one section at a time, and know exactly what meals I have planned for the week. The kids are on a strict schedule. I have my night planned out way in advance and am generally the calendar planner of the family. Maybe this year I will become a little more lax.
Anyways, Happy Birthday Mike. You deserved a great party without all the snafu's but you keep assuring me that it was just fine. I love you. Happy first day of being 27...
My party (and my entire birthday for that matter) was amazing! The only part that sucked is that you were feeling down with all the "snafu's" and the "fires" and the "sicknesses":) I had a truly blessed day and I thank God for such an amazing extended family we have.
