I'm not sure why exactly I am so incredibly sick of winter this year (normally it doesn't get to me this much) but I am getting impatient waiting for signs of spring to pop up outside. Mike was very thoughtful this Valentines Day and bought be a spring bouquet rather than roses so I could have a touch of spring inside. The Gerber daisies didn't last long but I'm loving the double snap dragon flowers! They remind me of my Grandma and how she used to put them on my ears for earrings. I'll be sad when I have to throw these flowers out (maybe someone could buy me more...wink, wink, nudge, nudge). And yes, the orange in the background really is the color of our living room. Some people still can't get over our color schemes.
Here are a list of things I am looking forward to:
1. No weaseling the boys into coats. Getting a two year old and a 9 month old bundled up is no fun.
2. Working on the yard: Fixing our fence that blew partially down last week in a wind storm, preparing the garden area, trimming back the forsythia bushes, etc.
3. I'm 26 and I've never mowed grass. Maybe I'll learn this year.
4. Puddle jumping! I got Sam rain boots and he has a giraffe rain coat that I found in the fall for $3 that we can play with.
5. Bubbles, sidewalk chalk, riding bikes.
6. Not having to wear multiple layers to go run.
7. Zoo membership.
8. Walking down to the school yard to play on the jungle gym.
9. Opening the windows!
10. Drying sheets on a clothes line.
11. Hanging up the hammock! I love reading outside with the sun and a gentle breeze.
12. Picnics.
13. Opening up the sunroof on the car.
14. Fresh (local) fruits and vegetables.
15. The sun is supposed to be one of the best things to get cloth diapers clean. (stain/smell fighting not to mention a built in dryer)
16. I wonder if Ray will like the feel of grass on his toes.
17. Do we have any bi-annual plants that we didn't get to see last year?
18. I bet Sam is ready to camp outside this year with his Daddy in the back yard.
19. Starting a compost pile.
20. Cooking outside on the grill.
I'm sure there are a lot of other things I'm looking forward to but those are the first 20 I came up with.
What are you looking forward to?
Sadly, after reading your list, I feel more depressed than looking forward!
ReplyDeleteAll those things sound amazing (#16 is precious-- a few years back I felt the same way about Andre since he was born in winter), yet knowing it is still too far away-- especially since we are getting yet another 3-5 inches tomorrow!
Coffee on the veranda over looking the lake, and then a walk around the lake.
ReplyDeleteshort shorts, mainly for myself, but for you too:)
ReplyDeletesweating, ice cream socials at our place, rock band party, seeing what running feels like in hot weather.
I had mowed grass for the first time when I was 8-- on the Martin's riding lawn mower at their cottage! This past summer I used a regular ole' push mower for the first time. I couldn't get it to start by myself, but after that, I was golden.
ReplyDeleteSunroof and camping-- yay! I look forward to a trip east to Castalia duck ponds and then up to Sandusky to look at boats! Possibly a trip to Cedar Point-- did I tell you that Omri went last year with my dad and rode all the kiddie rides, save for the Jr. Gemini. She loves rides.
Good ideas. How did I forget about the 2nd Annual Mara Family Ice Cream Social?! If you weren't able to make it to the first hopefully you can plan for the second some time in June.
ReplyDeleteWe are looking forward to starting a garden also. I eat so many veggies that WIll said it is time to grow some!! LOL
ReplyDeletei may make a list like this on my blog! fun
