Letter Oo Preschool Ideas

This week we didn't do as many activities as we normally do. My husband, a teacher, had two snow days so, we had lots of extra "daddy playtime" and nearly a foot of snow!

We made our typical list of words. Sam came up with lots of O words this week even the word, Otter! (I had know idea he even knows what an otter is.) All week long, Sam wanted to play an Otter game and I was drawing a blank. Daddy to the rescue! My husband taught Sam a song he learned as a kid at swim class that goes like this: "Mister Otter, Mister Otter, what are we gonna do? Mister Otter, Mister Otter, we're gonna go under with you!" (I threw a blanket in the mix so that it would make more sense in the living room.)

We made an Octopus out of the letter Oo. I had squiggly eyes, number stickers, water printed paper, and polka dot paper in my stash of craft supplies.
We had an empty ribbon spool from our ribbon dance party so, we turned it in to an owl using this template.
Sam transferred and color sorted "O's" (circle foam beads) in to an egg tray using tongs.
We watched YouTube videos about otters and another about a HUGE octopus. I have found YouTube to be a good source of showing Sam things that he wouldn't normally get to see however, I would recommend pre-screening the videos before showing them.

At storytime, the librarian happened to read a great book called, "Who's in the Ocean?" by Dorothea DePrisco. It's a fun lift the flap book that gives the kids facts/clues and encourages them to figure out who is under the flap.
Unrelated to the letter Oo, Sam has been playing with his wipe and erase number cards a lot lately. We also stamped his name on to Valentines for school (I taped together an "S", "A"and "M" to make a "personalized" stamp).

And best of all, in my humble opinion, we made oatmeal raisin cookies! I measured the ingredients out in to smaller bowls and Sam dumped them all in and we talked about how the mixer works because he is officially in the "Why?" stage!
