Qq is for...

This weeks letter was Qq. Here's what we did:

Made our Q list. Since Q is a harder letter to come up with words, here is our list: Queen, quail, quarter, quilt, quiet, question, Q-tips, quack, Quesadilla, quit, quick.

Stamped Q's on to a Q (not very creative, I know. I wanted to make a question mark stamp out of a potato but we just didn't get to it.).
Talked about how coins have a front and back side and made rubbings with quarters. I recommend taping the coins to the table if you are doing this with little ones. Sam was getting frustrated trying to keep the coin and paper still until we enlisted the help of tape. Once we got the hang of it, Sam really enjoyed doing this and we added in other coins too. You could also add the step of cutting the coins out.
Created a fruit loop/do a dot quilt and quail.
Colored and read a book about quilts.Cut and pasted paint swatches on to a piece of cardboard to make a "quilt". Sam was really interested in the names of the colors.
Acted out the words to, "Jack be nimble. Jack be QUICK. Jack jump over the candle stick." We made this candle stick out of a small paper plate, paper towel tube (cut to size) decorated with do-a-dot markers (Sams idea) and a scrap of orange fabric for the flame. If you are doing this with a group you can always swap out "Jack" for the kids names.
Quacking (duck) stuff -
Music: Let's Get Quackin' by Rachel Sumner. (Consider yourself warned: This song will get stuck in your head!)
Books: Make Way for Ducklings. Little Quack. Giggle Giggle Quack. and a personal favorite, Duck on a Bike.
Movement: Dance like a duck.
Nature: Looked at pictures of us feeding ducks last summer at Mirror Lake (the best place around to feed ducks). Talked about how it will eventually be warm enough to do that again (hopefully soon!) This picture is from July of 2009.

I decided to submit my ideas to Preschool Corner. Check out their site for a list of other blogs with great preschool ideas!
