Pre-writing with a Hotwheels Collection

Often times I think that Sam (age 3) has way too many Hotwheels cars. I still think that but we had lots of fun with this pre-writing activity using his cars!

First, I wrote out his name in masking tape on the floor. (There is lots of room for variation here: make shapes, lines, words, letters, numbers, etc. And use whatever you have a lot of: animals, blocks, legos, barbies, etc.)
And then he wrote his name in cars! He drove each car toward the end of the letter until it met up with another one. This gave him lots of practice making the shape of the letters.
There was lots of language going on while he was doing this. He was telling me the make/model of nearly all his cars, asking me what year they were made (thankfully it's on the bottom of the car), naming colors, counting cars, etc. He even started talking about how the cars had to drive around a curve or go in a straight line to form the letter!
As we were finishing up, Sam asked, "Mommy, can we do this tomorrow with your name?!"
