Sewing For Haiti - Sew Along

I have gotten emails and comments on my blog in the past several days asking if I know of any sewing opportunities for Haiti.  So, lets not forget that Haitians are very much still in need of help and let's get sewing!

I came across Homebound Missions when I was working on the Blankets for Haiti project.  If you click on the "You Can Help" tab there are two sewing opportunities: Dozens of Diapers and Fabrics to Frocks.  A Diaper pattern is provided and here is a suggestion for an easy "frock" pattern (haven't tried it yet). You can also donate sewing supplies if you are looking to de-stash!

I do not know of any organizations collecting blankets at this time.  If you have blankets to send to Haiti, you may want to call local churches to see if they are doing any missionary trips to Haiti and would be willing to take them.

For those of you that don't sew but still want to donate items rather than money to organizations helping Haitians, they also have a wish list of items for the orphanage.

I WILL NOT be collecting these items personally; you can send them to Homebound Missions directly.  I also don't have any personal affiliation with Homebound Missions, I just happened upon them on the internet.  (And before I start getting emails about how we shouldn't send items but rather money to Haiti,  I understand what you mean but, this organization is asking for these items and has ways of getting them to Haiti.  Thanks!)

How many items do you think we can send in the next two months (by July 14th, 2010)?!  Feel free to spread the word on your own blogs if you would like.  Any items you create can be shared in this Flickr Group (It's the one I made for the Blankets for Haiti project hence the name).
