Today was day 3 of week 5 for Couch to 5K. This means 20 minutes of running with no walking breaks (with 5 minutes of walking before and after). I successfully finished this (with one five second break to stretch my calf muscles)! I never felt out of breath and was even questioning myself when I was done as to whether I had really done 20 minutes - it seemed to go by so quickly. I ran in my Mom and Michaels subdivision and the streets aren't on mapmyrun.com or any online mapping tool or our GPS (it always says we are driving in a field). Because of this, I have no idea how far I actually ran but I would imagine a little over 2 miles (I am however a horrible judge of distance).
The best part about the run was that I have been wanting to listen to Lauryn Hill on a run but have been relying on podcasts to tell me when to walk/run. Because today was solid running I thought I would see if Lauryn's timing would work. PERFECTLY, actually! Disc 2 of MTV Unplugged 2.0 works for 30 minutes if you skip the first song (Intro 5) walk through "Mystery of Iniquity" and run until "Conquering Lion" is over then walk for "Outro" then another 2 minutes of walking to absorb all the wonderfulness that you just listened to. If "Conquering Lion" isn't a great song to finish up a run to then, I don't know what is. It encouraged me to sprint the last minute and actually stop for a second (in my head not physically) to thank God for finishing which was great. Seriously, if you haven't listened to this album you should. And watch "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit" (I have the double DVD with both Sister Acts on it)!
I've had it in my head for a few weeks that I would like to set a goal to run 10K (6.2 miles) before my birthday (August 24th). Well, it turns out that Westerville has a run on August 23rd including the first ever Westerville 10K - how convenient. Anyone have a suggestions of a training program to follow? I've enjoyed c25k so far so, something along those lines would be great. I also reached my first weight goal of dropping 5lbs so, I'm happy about that. Next goal - another 5 before the 5k on May 16th.
Who ever thought I would end up liking running? and my cross-training (gardening)? Certainly not me...
Welp, off to enjoy a 200 year old Dutch Farmers snack with Michaels make it at home kit. I'll consider it a reward for my run today.
I've included lots of links tonight for your education, or Miseducation...
Nice tagline...How did the Flossie's turn out?
ReplyDeleteI'm still so happy about your run. And I would have been the first to say, Sarah, running? No way, that is unless she decided that she wanted to do it, to which I would say that she could finish a marathon on sheer determination.
ReplyDeleteAwesome links by the way. That dutch snack turned out sooooo well!
Matthew - Flossie's were seriously delish!
ReplyDeleteMike - I'm not stubborn ;)
Sounds like an awesome run!
