We walked from Sears Tower area down to The Art Institute. This was both Mike and I's first trip to the Museum and there was a lot to take in. We did cover most of the museum but we spent a majority of our time with the impressionists and the modern art wing. Here's a classic for you:
The Museum has a bridge that connects to Millennium Park. We also had never been there (it didn't exist the last time I was in Chicago and this was Mike's first visit). "The Bean" was really neat and it's fun to look at the pictures that we took and play our own version of "Where's Waldo?". I was also impressed with the garden that was walled in by hedges. You could really escape from the city in there if you wanted to. Feeling tired and with rain rapidly approaching we headed back to the hotel for a nap before heading out again.
After a nap and letting the rain pass through, we headed back to Michigan Avenue in search of a long sleeve sweatshirt of sorts for Mike. Note to Chicago bound travelers: Chicago is always a little cooler. We stopped at the Nike store with no luck but Mike did get a coaching opportunity.
Later in the evening, Mike's alter ego, Max Mara, was able to model his new sweatshirt.
We went to The Rose Bud on Rush for dinner. We ate outside so that we didn't have to wait an hour for a table which proved to be a good people watching spot. Mike really enjoyed his chicken parm but I would say my eggplant parm was just okay. The Caesar Salad we shared was amazing. Overall, I would say this was quantity over quality. I'm pretty sure my plate could have fed a family of four! Another travel tip for Chicago bound persons: I hated the thought of them throwing away tons of food so, following the lead of some random person I saw on the street the night before, we boxed out leftovers and gave them to a homeless man. He seemed to appreciate the gesture.
To be continued...
I once tried to give some leftovers to a homeless man in Ann Arbor. It was high end empanadas from the Prickly Pear. He told me he was hungry and that it looked good, but he was holding out for a burger.
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I tried to give away leftovers to a homeless woman in Chicago once and she told us she was full because it was her birthday and her niece just took her out to dinner. It cracked me up!
