Game on! If you are interested in making blankets to send with a team that is going to Haiti in March then go ahead and get sewing. I've already heard from others in Ohio and some in North Carolina.
I will be collecting blankets until Friday, March 12th to send with the team.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. For now here are some questions/answers that I have been asked.
What are the details for the blankets?
Handmade. New. Clean. PIN FREE. Any size or style is welcome. Put lots of love in them.
Where do I send the blanket(s)?
I am in Ohio. Please email me.
Can I share this with others?
Absolutely.
Want more details about the team/trip?
See this post. I will update on my blog as I have more details.
Do I know exactly (i.e. name of the orphanage) where the blankets will be going?
No. The team plans to work with individuals in the Dominican Republic and then travel to Haiti to work at an orphanage. I will continue to update details as I know them. I realize the lack of specifics may make some uncomfortable and for that I am sorry. If you feel uncomfortable then please don't participate in this project but rather find another (see below for ideas).
What Church do the people that are going on the trip attend?
Mostly they attend Vineyard Columbus.
I'm looking for other crafty ways to serve. Do you know of any?
Craft Hope is creating an etsy shop where all proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders. If you would like to donate an item please refer to Craft Hope's site. It is not recommended to send items to Haiti unless you have a very specific way of getting them there due to compromised infrastructure. Most organizations are calling for monetary donations.
Do you believe in the impossible?
"There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things."
"I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." - Lewis Carroll
Do you think I could knit a blanket? I still need to learn how to quilt, but I sure can knit! As your friends get more info about the trip let me know. I would love to collect some small toys/trinkets/supplies for the orphanage if they think they could use them (I've heard deflated soccer balls with a hand pump are always a huge hit).
ReplyDeleteCarrie - Knit Away! As of right now I think we are going to stick to collecting blankets. If the needs change I will certainly let you know.
ReplyDeleteI'm in! I have one blanket just finished, and can make at least a few more by then. What an awesome idea, thank you! I've donated what we can for now in cash, but I have fabric sitting around that I would love to put to good use!
ReplyDeleteI am a Fibers major at the Savannah College of Art and Design. A group of us is hoping to set up a donation on-campus to make quilts for Haiti. I hope we can send them with you!

ReplyDeleteThat would be great. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have.
I have a bunch of simple, but warm blankets I am making to send to the people of Haiti, all I need is an address to send them to. I would like to send them to you and the organization you have set up. I live in Hawaii and will send them via UPS. Please let me know and thanks, I've been searhing everywhere for a way to send them. I like the idea of giving then some comfort and a warm blanket can help.
ReplyDeleteI have just begun working on a block blanket. I'm not a quilter, but I hope that blankets/covers will be accepted and will help those in need.
ReplyDeleteGod bless those that are working on this project.

This is AWESOME!!! I have been searching for a place to send my blankets. A few days after this disaster I was praying for these people and felt that God layed it on my heart to make blankets. I am currently out of work and don't have the ability to send a monetary donation, but I sent out a call for fabric donations or money for fabric. I recieved 4 totes of fabric plus money for more. WOW!!! I'm starting with the easiest fabrics to work with and making simple blankets. Some of the fabrics aren't the most beautiful, but it's only in America where we look at such things. I'm making blankets for babies, children, and adults of differing weights, esp given the differing fabrics I've been given. Thank you so much for doing this!!!! Blessings to everyone who is sewing away!!!

We have a group of 3rd grade girls who call themselves the Teeny Tiny Team! Their mission is to help people. They recently made fleece blankets and really want to get them to the children in Haiti. Would these be acceptable? Thank you so much to you and all.
ReplyDeleteJean - yes, please email me. LOVE the name of their group!
