Bee Vintage - July Blocks

Bee Vintage (a virtual quilting bee or, VQB for short) is launching in July and I get to host first! Woohoo!  There was enough interest in this group that there will actually be two groups.  I'm sure many beautiful quilts will be made out of the re-purposed vintage sheets so, you may want to check in on the flickr pool from time to time.  (I'll be using these vintage sheet fat quarters to make the quilt blocks.)

For my July blocks, I am requesting a "block o' strings" using this tutorial from "p.s. i quilt".  I'll be sending the bee members Kona Grass (solid green fabric) to use as the middle strip.

Here is what my sample block looks like:

Here is a link to see what a string quilt looks like all put together.  See how the blocks create a second set of diamonds when you put them together?

And some more pictures of the block just because it's pretty.  I am biased though; grassy green is my favorite color!

Wait A Minute Mr. Postman!

So, I have been anticipating a package all week and was bummed when I went to get the mail today and it wasn't there. I checked the package tracking online and it said it was supposed to arrive today...

I kind of wanted to chase after the mailman and ask where it was but a crazy woman running down the street with three children just seemed a bit too crazy.

But then...  When the Mom of the girl I babysit for came in this afternoon with a nice little box in her hand I couldn't help but say, "Yes!"  After all, this is what was inside:

And here they are out of the box (I played with these in the yard while the boys played with their own toys):

I obtained these 50 vintage sheet fat quarters from a swap on Flickr.  And, I just had to join the virtual quilting bee group, Bee Vintage!  So, if you are out thrifting or garage sale hopping, be on the look out for vintage sheets to send my way!
