June Sewing Projects

I mentioned in my last post my trip to Jo Ann Fabrics in BG where I hit the jackpot sale on fabrics. I've decided not to share with you all the wonderful things I purchased because I am going to turn some of them into gifts.

Well, I finished up a new cars blanket for Sam but only the binding came from Jo Ann's. I found the fabrics at Hobby Lobby in BG. I am relatively happy with the way it turned out since this is my first official quilt that I put batting into and also tried my hand at machine quilting (some straight lines, around the cars logo, Lightning and Mater). I'm sure he will love it when he sees it tomorrow morning! (You can overlook the very visible mistakes - hey, it's handmade!)

This is really a wall hanging panel but it will work for a blanket for Sam.

My first attempt at machine quilting. (around the body of Lightning.)

Backside of the quilt. I love this fabric because it has all the Radiator Springs characters. I used 7/8" quilt binding (bias tape) in black for the edges.

Next project: A mystery birthday present for Aunt Maegan. Hopefully it will be done to give to her later this week! Her birthday was yesterday.

Upcoming Projects: Fat Quarter purses. (I've never used interfacing before so this will be a good project to try it out on.) Embroidered Handprints. (I've never embroidered before but I found a tutorial of some basic stitches.) A quilt for Ray with some Curious George fabric. Some mystery baby gifts for my new nieces or nephews or one of each that are on the way!

  1. Well, considering that it is only 7:26 in the morning and Sam has already silently taken the blanket back to his room and placed it on his bed.. I think we have a new favorite. Congrats mom, your hard work paid off:)

I think he wanted to hide it from Ray, B and T.

  2. Adorable!:o) Sounds like he loves it already! That's got to be a great feeling!

Your upcoming projects are super cute too! Love the purse and the handprint is truly unique-- sure beats not knowing what to do with multiple 5 pound hunks of cement! I could even see them as ornaments. Curious as to your mystery gifts.:o)
