Quirky Kids

I just realized that I never posted Quirky Kids last Wednesday, oops!  Well, here are some quirky things the boys have been up to!

This picture speaks for itself:

Sam went to a graduation party with Daddy for one of his students.  Sam is in love with the graduate, K.  When he got back from the party he wanted us to email K the following questions/comments:
1.  What kind of car do you drive?
2.  I think you are pretty.
3.  Are you coming to my house today or tonight?
When we mentioned to Sam that K could be a potential babysitter he asked if we could leave so that she could come over!

Ray has called horses, "yeahs" for months.  This week he finally started saying, "horse".  Is it wrong that I am a little sad about this?  I guess he is still calling flowers, "butterflies" so, I've got that to hold on to.

We have pretty much been living outside.  Some of the new favorite past times are "squirty fish fights" and putting the edge of the slide in the baby pool so that they can slide right in!

We have been picnicking in the backyard quite a bit.  Of course some funny conversations take place between brothers and the boys both crack up laughing!

Quirky Kids

This week has been a bit of a blur with end of the school craziness and a trip out of town over the weekend.  Usually I keep a running list on the computer (does anyone else love the program stickies and apples?) but I neglected to do so this week.  With lack of coffee this is going to be short. (Wow that was a lot of unneeded excuses!)

The boys were camping all weekend and their cousin H, was there too.  H is 6, Sam is 3 1/2 and Ray just turned 2.  While I wasn't there for too much of the weekend I did do bath duty one night with H and Sam.  Here are a few things I overheard:
H: "I'm six so, I have the bigger one."
H: "Wow, I never knew you could fit this many people in here (two boys in a camper tub).  It's like a hot tub!"

Sam cut his own hair on Friday.  When I asked him why he said, "I just didn't want Papa Truck to cut it this time!"

Ray is really proud of himself when he builds a tower.  He says, "Tah-dah!"

Yesterday, Sam was watering his slide in hopes of making it bigger.

Ray has been telling everyone to walk like an elephant or that he is walking like an elephant.  This consists of walking normally but swinging your arm while making a trumpeting sound.

Quirky Kids

Sam has been talking non-stop! (I think this is pay back for me doing the same as a preschooler. They called me "Little Joan (Rivers)" because I always had something to say about everything.) The other night he spent over a half hour on the phone with my Mom, brother in law, and mother in law.

Sam and his friend, L, played in an outdoor fountain at our local mall after a story time at Barnes and Noble. Sam then declared: "I am soak AND wet, soak AND wet, Mommy!"

Ray was running/galloping around the house yelling, "I want pizza!" in a very deep voice.

Have you heard the song, "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes? Every time it comes on Ray tried to whistle along and Sam asks, "Why did they just say Jesus' name?"

Ray is saying, "Camel, slide!" and then sliding down my legs. In an episode of The Wonder Pets, the baby camel slides down a pyramid to get to the oasis.

Rays is calling my friend Mandy, "Meany". For example, when she left our house last week he was saying, "Meany, Meany, hug!"

I finished an "I Spy" quilt for the boys. There are 182 blocks. Ray managed to find the elephant in about 2 seconds!

Me:  No more snack guys, we are going to have dinner in a little bit.
Sam:  Remember, we just had dinner - play dough dinner?!

Ray was flipping through a coloring book, saw a palm tree and said, "Look flamingo tree, Mommy!  Flamingo Tree!"

Sam was super excited to go to his first car show with Daddy!

Sam had his last day of preschool on Thursday.  When I asked all the kiddos to get together for a photo, Ray sneaked in too.  I would love to show you the picture and how he is a head shorter than all the other kids and has the biggest grin, but that would take a lot of photo editing to blur all those cute faces that don't belong to me!

We were in the play area at Chic Fila and I couldn't find Sam for a second.  He was up in the tunnel above my head!  Keep in mind this is the kid who doesn't like both feet to be off the ground at the same time and that we bribed with money to climb up in the same tunnel a month or two ago!  He managed to climb all the way up in a matter of seconds!

Sam: "I'm Buzz Lightyear and I always help someone go pee."

Ray turns two this Saturday!  When we ask him, "How old are you?"  we get two different responses.  He either A) counts from two to six or B) identifies the person that asked the question.  Every once in a while he will give us a firm, "TWO!" as he holds up 4 or 5 fingers :)

Quirky Kids

Well, my boys were gone 5 out of 7 days this past week while my husband and I were off celebrating our anniversary so, I don't have too many funny things to share.  Here are a few:

Sam: Mommy, Jesus drives a really fast car!
Me:  Oh really?  What does he drive?
Sam: A Cobalt SS
Me:  Oh cool, just like Daddy.
Sam:  Well actually it's a Cobalt SS GT19.

Ray has a new stinky face that Papa taught him.  It can't do it justice with a written description so, I need to capture some video!

While Sam and I were coming up with a letter Z list he decided to make up some nonsense words as well.  According to Sam's instructions, they are listed in a separate box on the piece of paper we created our list on.  My favorite is "zaptagon" which according to Sam is a shape with ten sides.

Another week of silliness (especially from Sam)!

Sam: Uh, Mom?  I think you are beautiful but I absolutely love letters.

First thing Sam said when he woke up: "What in the world is that smell?!"
Me:  "Well Sam, your brother pooped and stunk up the place!"

Sam was in the bathroom for about 10 minutes doing his thing and talking to Jesus (out loud).  When he was done I asked him what they were talking about and he said, "Well, Jesus was at his cousins house yesterday and his cousin ate all his candy.  Jesus told his Mom and his Mom said, "That's not cool at all.""

Sam has been playing lots of air guitar and singing his new hits like, "Her House is Full of Monsters!", "Think About It!", and "Like to Eat!".

Me:  Sam when you were in my belly I ate a lot of Cocoa Pebbles.
Sam: Mommy, when you were a little baby in my belly I ate a lot of them too.
Me:  Well, actually I was in Nunny's belly when I was a little baby.
Sam: And then when you came out of Nunny's belly you went in to mine.
Me: Oh, okay Sam.  (Some things just aren't worth arguing over.)

Me: (Getting a washcloth out to wash Sam.)
Sam: Can you hand me a minute?
Me: Huh?
Sam: Can you just hand me a minnnnnutttte?
Me: Oh, you want me to give you a minute so that you can play?
Sam: yeah.

We stopped in at my in-laws last night.  On the way Mike called to tell them we would be there shortly so that they could put the dog away (she bit Sam a few weeks ago).  Sam had this to say:
Sam:  What were you talking to Papa Truck about?  To put the dog away?
Mike:  Yeah Buddy.
Sam:  Yeah, the dog needs to be put away so she doesn't act stupid.
Apparently Mike explained to Sam that the dog was just acting stupid when she bit him.  (He told me that was the nicest word he could come up with.)

And one from Ray.  These elephants come to lunch every day.  Good thing they are plastic and can be easily rinsed off after their yogurt bath!

Quirky Kids

Another week in the life with two quirky, silly boys!

I overheard this conversation between the boys:
Sam: "Ray, do you want a chew toy?"
Both boys: hysterical laughter

Me: "Sam, you're my favorite three year old."
Sam: "Well Mom, you're my favorite twenty seven year old."

I had chocolate chip cookies on a cooling rack on top of the kitchen counter then, Ray walked in with an armful of cookies.

Sam was being pretty rude to me all day.  We went to the library in the evening and he said to the librarian, "Excuse me, could you help me find a book about clouds please?"  He then proceeded to follow her back to the books and then said, "Thank you.  Have a nice night."


Not really a quirk but the boys also got haircuts this week:

Lots of funny stuff going on here this week!

Sam threw himself on the floor and proceeded to look like a fish out of water.  I asked him what he was doing and he said, "I'm gettin' my energy out!"

Sam: You need to try and catch it better, Nunny.
Nunny (my Mom):  Well, maybe there is a problem with the balloon thrower.
Sam:  No, you just need to catch it!

The little girl that I babysit for, M, was gone last week for spring break.  The boys were missing her.  When she came back on Monday we had to run to the grocery store.  Ray was in the seat of the cart and Mia was in the big part in her car seat carrier.  Ray turned around and held her hand through the grocery store - so sweet!

Nunny:  (watching Sam run down the sidewalk) That racecar on your shirt says that you are a fast three year old.
Sam: (Looks down at his shirt.)  Well, Nun, my shirt doesn't have any words on it but if you want to pretend it does that's okay.

I think Sam may have picked up a cuss word, sorta.  He has been saying, "It smells like shells!"

Sam: Look Mommy!  I'm gonna dip my turkey in my pudding.
Me:  Eww, That's gross!
Sam:  Look Mom, look!  I'm doing it.  Look!

Sam:  Mom?!  The washing machine is dancing again!

(Sam was whining in his bed after we put him down...)
Me:  What's wrong?
Sam:  Daddy forgot to put a diaper on me.
Me:  That's okay Sam; sometimes Mommies and Daddies just forget.
Sam:  No, Mommy.  Just Daddy forgets!

Turkey on a horse brought to you by Ray:

We went to a local park and Sam wanted to push Ray's stroller.  As we were going up a slight incline he said, "Mom, gravity is making this really hard!"

Quirky Kids

Sam: My stomach hurts so, tonight I will need Orange Juice instead of milk.
Me:  Oh, I'm sorry Sam, I didn't know your stomach was hurting.
Sam:  Yeah, it won't be better until the end of April
(This was his way of asking for OJ instead of milk.)

Yesterday, Ray slept with a picture of the baby elephant at our zoo that I tore out of a magazine for him.

Mike and Sam went to the car wash.  When they got back Sam came inside and said, "Mommy I was FREAKING OUT in there."

Mike keeps telling Sam that he should tell me how he feels about me.  It goes something like this, "Mommy, are you feeling okay?"

Ray is elephant obsessed.  Today I bought him two little plastic elephants.  I had intended to only buy him one but then he noticed that they had a baby and a Mama.  When we left the store and got in the car he kept saying, "Mama, thank you elephants!" over and over.  Totally worth the $10 I spent on two plastic elephants.  And now he is sleeping with them too...

And when I took this picture, Ray said, "Elephants Cheese!  (He does have a stuffed elephant too; I don't make my kids use magazine clippings and hard plastic animals for their "loveys"!)

Ray is looking at the above picture saying, "Elephants and Sam!"  He still hasn't figured out how to identify himself.  To his credit sometimes we call him the wrong name too!

Quirky Daddy:  We just got the outside Christmas lights down this week!

Quirky Kids

Out of no where Sam said to me, "Mommy, I think you do a great job keeping kids safe." (I always tell him my job is to keep him and Ray safe.)

Ray got new Crocs (shoes) and when I put them on him he said, "Look shoes! New shoes!" (over and over and over again).

We went down to Ohio State's campus for some pizza by the slice and to feed the ducks only to find out the ducks aren't back yet. Instead the boys put on a performance at the amphitheater near Mirror Lake and Sam informed us, "When I get big, I will go to school here while you take a nap."

When Ray isn't wearing his new Crocs, he likes to wear Daddy's shoes (The picture won't stay rotated properly.):

Quirky Kids

The boys and I were at Hobby Lobby. While waiting to get some fabric cut Sam was being very chatty with the employee. She told him that he is cute. When he didn't say, "thank you", I asked him, "Sam, what do you say?". He said (to the mid 40's employee), "I think you're cute too!".

Sam was singing VERY loud then stopped and told me, "I'm just making up some songs for Jesus, Mommy."

Ray likes to eat out of boxes rather than bowls. For example, this week he has been carrying around a (movie theater size) Raisinets box with fish crackers in it.

Ray is learning our neighbor, Debbie's, name. Now when we are outside he yells, "Dehh-eeee" really loud over and over again.

And I guess I'm quirky too...

The other day, in a state of sleepiness, as I was saying goodbye to Mike I told him, "Don't eat the shrimp cocktail at school. It might be bad."

Quirky Kids

Last night, Ray hit the intercom on our cordless phone and it was giving some feedback. Sam asked, "What's that?" to which my husband replied, "A wookie." Sam said, "Ooooh yeah... It's a wookie talkie." (I'm sure George Lucas would market this since he markets everything...)

I see a future business: Two Brothers Vacuum Repair. The vacuum needed a new belt so, Sam and I took a trip to the hardware store. He paid for the belt, took the change and told the cashier to have a nice day. So grown up!
Sam is a little (aka very) cautious. We went to Chik Fila for dinner and to play. Sam gets scared at the prospect of climbing up to go through a tunnel to go down the slide so, we threw coins and dollar bills on to the higher levels of the play area (we were the only ones in there) for him to climb up and get. I'm not that I like this bribery style of parenting but we need to get this kid moving! He ended up with $2 and some change so, we told him we would go across the street to Toys R Us and he could pick something out. He bought a set of two balls, paid for them, and told the cashier to have a good night (he's getting good at paying for things!). When we got in to the van he announced to us that one of the balls is for Ray. So, although I'm not sure about the bribery thing we must be doing something right, right?

We have several boxes sitting in our back room full of blankets to send to Haiti. Ray was sitting on one yesterday (making a video to send to his cousin across the pond) and the tape started to give out a little. He said, "Oh Boxski!" He has been adding a "-ski" to the end of some words and it just cracks me up!

Ray has been removing his pants lately. Sometimes this makes for a big mess (like when he pooped during his nap with no pants on and diaper half way off) or a cold body (like when I found him the other morning with his zip up footie pj's completely off). Here is my attempt to make him keep his pants on. He's going to start a new trend...

(I always tell Sam that as soon as he can reach the knobs he can do his own laundry.)

The return of Quirky Kids Wednesdays!

Sam loves taking pictures. Here is one he took of himself to show off his chubby cheeks:

Sam: "Mommy, when it gets warm outside can we squirt each other with water? When will it be warm?"

Sam: "Mommy, there is snow on the ground. Daddy doesn't have to be at work."

Ray holds his little people animals and makes them kiss each other.

Sam told me he was going to be right with me and be a big helper. He proceeded to be "right with me" by clinging to my leg while he tried to help out.

Ray is saying, "I poop!" anytime he poops or farts. He is also calling all letters, "A" or "O" and all colors, "Yellow" or "Blue". (That's a good start!)

I heard Sam and Mike yelling, "Aliens!!!" and clapping then, I realized they were playing Toy Story memory. (Aliens freak me out - fyi.)

Ray is giving up his binkies much more willingly in the mornings. When I ask him for them he throws them at me!

Sam told my mom that he wants me to have a baby girl and name her, "Raeann" (my aunts name). I think Ray and Raeann would be a bit much. (Nope, I'm not pregnant.)

Ray is giving real hugs now. He wraps his arms around you, squeezes and even pats your arms with his little hands. It's the best!

Sam wanted to talk to Nunny and Papa (my Mom and Step Dad) on the phone. When I got them on the line he proceeded to blow raspberries on a ball and tell them that he was farting.

At then end of the Sandra Boynton book, "Moo, Baa, La La La" the line is: "It's quiet now, what do you say?". Ray says, "Thank you!" Here is a video just short of two minutes of me reading the book and Ray filling in with animal noises. (Ignore the first few seconds where Mike gives a short tour of our house.)

Quirky Kids - Week 8

I failed to keep a running list of quirks this week but this video should suffice.

Underwear. Instruments. Singing, "I Am The Walrus". Goofy.

Quirky Kids - Week 7

I was making some Annie's Mac and Cheese for the boys and Sam said, "I spy with my little eye, something deeeeelicious!"

I was on the phone and when I hung up Sam said, “Who did you tell, “I’m fine, how are you?” Mommy?”

Ray is really getting in to animals and the noises they make. Were started watching You Tube videos to figure out what sound a zebra makes. We stumbled upon a bear video, which is his favorite animal, and it said to turn the sound up to hear the bear. Me trusting that it was in fact a bear video turned it on with the sound up and 10 seconds in to watching a bear try to catch a fish a monster popped up and screamed! Sam was mad, explaining that a bear does not in fact sound like that. Ray was cracking up!

Sam is all about the “Olive you” knock knock joke but he has taken it to a whole new level. Since we actually know a baby named Olive he doesn’t quite get that it is a play on words so, he inserts every baby he knows in to the joke.

Ray has started to talk a lot more in the past week. He started saying, “cheeee” over the weekend as in “cheese” to get his picture taken. He also started saying, "Joe Joe" (his uncle).

Sam asked me if I am Cinderella. Because he has never seen the movie I asked him who Cinderella was and he said, “Well, L and A were saying, “I’m Cinderella”, “no, I’m Cinderella”, Are you Cinderella, Mommy?” L and A are two girls at his preschool. (btw, I think my grammar has gone out the window and I may have used too many commas and quotations marks to explain that; plus, I started the sentence with, “because”.)

Sam likes to look at pictures on our computer and came across pictures from Mike and I’s wedding. When he saw one of us kissing he said, “Aww man, Mommy, come look at this!”

Sam and Ray were watching videos on the computer that we have taken with our digital camera. When Ray saw Papa and Kenzie (the dog) he started freaking out and calling their names (clear as day). I took a video of it and posted it on Facebook. Later, my Mom said that Kenzie was watching it and trying to find Ray.

And to show you that I am quirky too, I made up a knock knock joke this week:

Quirky Kids - Week 6

The past few weeks, I have been keeping a running list of the quirky things my kids do/say. This week was extra busy so, I will just have to pull some from the top of my head.

Sam watched a few Bond movies with Papa and Daddy and has been referring to my Mom as, "Nunny Penny". He usually calls her, "Nunny".

Sam learned how to sing "Jingle Bells". His version goes: "Jingle bells, jingle all the way. Who wants to ride in a one horse open sleigh?"

And a few pics to round things out:
